The iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class receives a host of powertrain upgrades and various touch-ups as part of an update for 2016.
The most notable change to the G-Class lineup is the new G500 model that replaces the outgoing G550. The Mercedes-Benz G500 is powered by the new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine derived from the Mercedes-AMG GT sports car. This new powertrain doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, as this engine was included in the recent Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4 Squared show car. The 4.0-liter churns out 415 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque in the G500, 33 hp and 59 lb-ft more than the 5.5-liter V-8 found in the outgoing G550.
