Refreshed Porsche Macan wears unusual camouflage
Most automakers use miles of covers, blankets, tape, and wraps to hide any details on new test mules. With the new Porsche Macan refresh, the German automaker appears to have avoided all of that complication, instead taking a cue from Bentley. The model we see here is mostly naked, but if you look closely you can spot a few new details.
Like the Bentley Continental GT prototype, this Macan features large stickers over both the headlights and taillights that, from a distance, make this car look like the current model. That should be no surprise, as even with full redesigns, Porsche is more evolution than revolution. Just look at the approach Porsche has taken with the new 911 prototypes.
It’s difficult to say what’s changed with the headlights, but out back expect similar taillights to the Porsche Panamera and 718 twins, with a long LED light spanning the car’s width. That would explain the black cover across the hatch. Other changes appear to be very minor, like a redesigned lower front bumper and foglights. Though we can’t see from these photos, expect a minor refresh of the Macan’s interior. Finally, look for new or upgraded engines as well, possibly even a plug-in Macan e-Hybrid.
Since this is a mid-cycle refresh, don’t expect Porsche to hold back on a full reveal for too long. Look for full details sometime late this summer or early this fall.
