Is the 860 Special Edition 10 Times the Toyota 86? Only for Those Who Flunked Math
With the demise of Toyota’s hipster brand, the former Scion FR-S sports coupe switched flat-brim hats, becoming the Toyota 86 for the 2017 model year. One hangover of its Scion days, however, was that the 86 was offered in only one trim level. Now that’s changing with the arrival of the 2017 Toyota 860 Special Edition. Although its name might suggest that the new model is 10 times better than the standard version, the 860 in the name actually refers to the production total: 860 units finished in Halo White and another 860 in Supernova Orange (a hue exclusive to the Special Edition). With either color, buyers get a car dressed with a pair of black racing stripes, black side mirrors, a rear spoiler—also in black—and a black-chrome finish for the 17-inch wheels. The interior is black leather with orange contrast stitching on the seats, dash, door panels, steering wheel, handbrake, and shift boot.
