Volkswagen has given the Euro-spec Beetle and Beetle Cabriolet minor updates inside and out.

Base, Design, and R-Line models benefit from new bumpers on both ends that give the retro-chic hatchback a sharper look. The R-Line version gets an additional air vent right below the hood, while all trim level gain new paint colors and an assortment of new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheel designs.

Inside, Volkswagen has added a brighter instrument cluster that’s easier to read than before, and a new dash pad. Buyers can choose from three additional upholstery materials, and they can spruce up the cabin by ordering a painted center console.

Volkswagen hasn’t made any major mechanical modifications. That means the Beetle continues to offer three gasoline-burning engines and two diesel-powered units whose outputs range between 105 and 220 horsepower. Front-wheel drive is the only configuration available, but most engines can be linked to either a manual transmission or a dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

The updated Volkswagen Beetle is on sale now across Europe. The lineup includes the standard models, and a handful of limited-edition variants like the Denim, the Allstar, and the Exclusive.

We’ll have to wait a few weeks to find out whether the U.S.-spec model will benefit from similar changes for the 2017 model year.
